On December 11, 2024, Dr. Tsai Jin-Pha, President of Asia University, and Mr. Lin Yih-Min, Chairman of Jtron Technology, started to collaborate on semiconductor talent development. Jtron Technology donated its V101 semiconductor testing system to establish a semiconductor hub at Asia University, aiming to cultivate semiconductor talent in central Taiwan and strengthen both parties' academic and technical capabilities in semiconductor workforce development.
President Tsai emphasized that 15 years ago, Asia University, led by Taiwan’s “first-generation semiconductor talent,” Professor Sheu Gene, launched a “Semiconductor Industry Research Program,” which has trained hundreds of senior engineers. These engineers have contributed to renowned global companies such as Apple in Germany, Qualcomm in the United States, Semiconductor industry in UK, TSMC, and others, achieving remarkable success.
In recent years, Asia University has actively promoted industry-academia collaboration to nurture high-level talent. President Chai expressed hope that this partnership with Jtron Technology will enable Asia University students to build a solid academic foundation and master the most advanced testing technologies in practice, becoming the backbone of the future semiconductor industry.
Chairman Lin Yih-Min pointed out that to maintain Taiwan’s leadership in semiconductor manufacturing, it is crucial to focus on advancing processes and high-end packaging development. Maintaining strong relationships with upstream supply chains and industry partners is essential. More importantly, industry-academia-government cooperation must continue to inject new, excellent talent into the sector.
Chairman Lin further explained that the V101 system from Jtron Technology integrates hardware and software monitoring equipment, offering intelligent services. The system accelerates the cultivation of semiconductor test engineers by combining academic and industry knowledge. It allows students to operate the equipment at the semiconductor hub and seamlessly transition into the industry. This platform plays a critical role in developing practical skills, achieving a “win-win-win” scenario for the industry, university, and students.
Asia University and Jtron Technology will jointly establish a Semiconductor Research Center and plan courses to train semiconductor test engineers and equipment engineers. In addition to Asia University students, the initiative will expand to talent development across central Taiwan and actively attract international semiconductor professionals, focusing on talent cultivation and retention to sustain Taiwan’s leadership in the global semiconductor industry.
